Project Profile - Department of Homeland Security OPS Managed Network Service (MNS)
Federated, as a Prime Contractor to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS,) is providing a Managed Network Service for emergency domestic satellite connectivity to the Office of Operations Coordination (OPS). The OPS Office is responsible for monitoring the security of the United States on a daily basis and coordinating activities within the Department and with Governors, Homeland Security Advisors, law enforcement partners, and critical infrastructure operators in all 56 U.S. States, territories, and possessions including more than 50 major urban areas nationwide.
Federated supports the OPS programs that integrate national level planning and operations in order to deter, detect, and prevent terrorist acts and mitigate natural disasters by coordinating the work of Federal, state, territorial, tribal, local, and private sector partners and by collecting and fusing information from a variety of sources. Federated has been contracted by the Office of Operations Coordination to provide this Managed Network Service to the primary 4.8M Ku-Band Satellite Earth Station and associated network infrastructure which is located at the DHS Headquarters, Washington D.C. and to install, test and commission a 4.8M Ku-Band Earth Station and a 9.0 Meter C-Band Earth Station in San Diego to provide geographical redundancy and coverage in the Pacific Ocean.
Federated coordinates scheduled maintenance outages, training exercises and incident response management with OPS. We also developed configuration maintenance logs of every registered node and special purpose device within the managed network. In order to be able to better advice on compliance issues, Federated monitors federal communication policies and regulations.
In addition to network and infrastructure management, Federated provides subject matter expertise in the area of strategic planning and alliance building, with a particular focus on interagency collaboration, technology insertion and sharing resources. We coordinate interagency interoperability and successfully conduct demonstrations and trials to verify interoperability readiness between different agencies successfully.
