Project Profile - Department
of Veteran’s Affairs
(VA)
Federated IT security engineers were responsible for the nationwide
deployment and integration of a wireless security solution to
172 VA hospitals securing patient data transmitted via the BCMA
(BarCode Medication Administration) wireless networks.
The VA is the largest non-DoD federal agency in the government
with over 230,000 employees. It operates 172 hospitals and over
300 Community Outpatient Clinics and Veteran Centers across the
United States and US territories. During the course of the project,
Federated IT security engineers conducted approximately 165 risk
assessments on nationwide VA hospitals, built over 200 Access
Control Servers, installed and configured the Secure Wireless
Gateway appliance on the backbone of hundreds of networks, installed
thousands of Remote Client software applications, tested the
3DES encrypted solution across hundreds of Wireless Access Ports
(WAPs), updated or created security policy manuals where appropriate,
and trained hundreds of VA Systems Engineers on the utilization
and sustainment of the wireless solution.
